River Estate is a family-run, two-home vacation rental on Kauaʻi’s North Shore. This page explains, in plain language, what information we collect through this website, why we collect it, and what we do with it. The short version: we collect only what we need to answer your questions and host your stay, we do not sell your information to anyone, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

Information we collect
When you book or check availability
To hold a reservation we collect your name, email address, phone number, mailing address, travel dates, and the number of guests in your party. If you pay online, your card details are entered directly into our payment processor’s secure form — we never see or store your full card number.
When you request the free Insider’s Guide
We collect your first name and email address so we can send you the guide and, occasionally, helpful North Shore information. Every one of those emails has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list immediately.
When you use the chat or contact form
Our website has an AI assistant trained on Mark’s answers about the property and the island. Conversations are recorded so Mark can read them, follow up on real questions, and improve the answers. If you provide your name, email or phone in the chat so we can get back to you, that contact information is stored with the conversation. Please do not enter payment card numbers or other sensitive personal information into the chat.
Automatically, when you browse
Like most websites, ours records standard technical information: pages viewed, approximate location (city or region level), browser and device type, the site that referred you, and the general path you took through the site. We use this only to understand which pages are useful and to keep the site fast and secure. We do not use it to identify you personally.

To answer your questions and send quotes, confirmations, directions and arrival information
To take and manage your reservation, including payments, deposits and refunds
To send the free guide you requested, and follow-up travel tips you can unsubscribe from at any time
To request a review after your stay (entirely optional)
To meet Hawaiʻi tax, permit and record-keeping obligations for licensed vacation rentals
To keep the website working, secure and free of spam
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Ever. We are a two-home rental, not a data company.
Services that help us run this site
We rely on a small number of established service providers. Each one only receives the information it needs to do its job:
Payment processing — Stripe, to process card payments securely. Card details go directly to Stripe; we receive only a confirmation and the last four digits.
Email delivery — our email service sends your confirmations, the guide and any newsletters you opted into.
Website analytics — Google Analytics and Google Search Console, to see which pages people find useful. Configured for aggregate reporting, not personal identification.
Security and performance — Cloudflare, which filters malicious traffic and speeds up page loading.
Embedded content — videos and maps hosted by YouTube and Google Maps. These providers may set their own cookies when you interact with them, under their own privacy policies.
AI assistant — the chat is powered by a third-party language model provider that processes the text of your conversation in order to answer it.
We may also share information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect the safety of our guests or our property.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We use them to remember what you typed into the availability search, to keep the site secure, and to gather anonymous analytics. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the booking calendar may not work correctly if you block them entirely.
How long we keep your information
Reservation and payment records — kept as long as Hawaiʻi tax and permit rules require, then deleted.
Inquiries and chat conversations — typically up to two years, so we can pick up where we left off if you write again.
Guide and newsletter subscribers — until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
Analytics — retained in aggregate form only.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you may ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct anything that is wrong, delete it, or stop sending you email. If you are a California resident, this includes your rights under the CCPA — including the right to know what we collect and the right to request deletion. We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front. If you are in the EU or UK, you also have the rights granted by the GDPR, including data portability and the right to object to processing.

Children
This website is intended for adults planning travel. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
The site runs over an encrypted HTTPS connection, sits behind a security and firewall service, and access to guest records is limited to Mark and the people who help manage bookings. No system is perfect, but we treat your information the way we would want ours treated.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be noted clearly.
