I’m Mark. In 1970 I came to Kauai with a surfboard in one hand and a heart full of curiosity. What started as a journey turned into home. Over 50 years later, I’ve built more than houses — I’ve nurtured gardens, protected landscapes, and hosted souls who come seeking something deeper than escape.
From finish carpentry in the 1970s to crafting one of Kauai’s first vacation rental websites in 1995, I’ve always built for purpose. River Estate isn’t just a property — it’s a manifestation of care, respect, and aloha. My kuleana (a Hawaiian word meaning responsibility) is to every guest, every tree, every river bend.

Decades of Local Wisdom
You don’t just stay on Kauai — you get guided by it. I’ll tell you where Spielberg shot at Anahola, which river trails few know, when to paddle, when to drift. My years in this valley turned knowledge into instinct.
Impeccable Craft & Maintenance
Guests say it: “immaculate,” “sparkling clean,” “the beds felt new.” I built much of this place myself, so when something isn’t perfect, I see it — and fix it — before you even mention it.
Service That Feels Personal, Never Pushy
I’ve arranged bikes, delivered kayaks, mapped secret drives, and even retrieved your lost shade hat. I don’t sell you service — I let service become invisible so you feel taken care of, not managed.
Stewardship Rooted in ʻĀina (Land)
This isn’t a rental. It’s sacred. I view myself as a caretaker, not just a property manager. I host with aloha, respecting Hawaiian values and working to leave this land better than I found it.
If you’re looking for more than a beach stay, if you want a place that listens, a home that honors land, a host that feels like a kind guide, then you’ve found your place. Stay in the Guest House or Riverhouse. Let me help you weave a Kauai experience you won’t forget.
